Rosa Parks Children and Youth Program

Over the course of three weeks in the summer, The Get Ahead Stay Ahead Project and the Rosa Parks Children and Youth Program teamed up at Peace Camp 2017 to produce a film on justice, Detroit in 1967, inequality and race. Students learned the basics of filming and were able to photograph, film, dance and write about what matters most to them. The film was debuted at the 2017 Peace Camp graduation. Check out the video here.

Alternatives for Girls

During the winter of 2016/2017, Alternatives for Girls and The Get Ahead Stay Ahead Project teamed up to talk self-esteem, heritage, role models, how we value ourselves and others, poetry, and film. The girls engaged in discussion about strong female poets and visual imagery and then were invited to either write their own poem or find one that resonated with them. They then story boarded their ideas and we went out to shoot video and stills. This is their end result. #girlpower
