Rosa Parks Children and Youth Program

Over the course of three weeks in the summer, The Get Ahead Stay Ahead Project and the Rosa Parks Children and Youth Program teamed up at Peace Camp 2017 to produce a film on justice, Detroit in 1967, inequality and race. Students learned the basics of filming and were able to photograph, film, dance and write about what matters most to them. The film was debuted at the 2017 Peace Camp graduation. Check out the video here.

You can also check out the 2016 Peace Camp video below and here

This film was created by the #smartkids at the Rosa Parks Children & Youth Program's 2017 Peace Camp. THEY MATTER!

HYPE - Detroit Public Library Teen Center

Since September 2015, The Get Ahead Stay Ahead Project has been working with the HYPE Teen Center in the main branch of the Detroit Public Library. The Get Ahead Stay Ahead Project creates lesson plans for two hour workshops in short film, poetry-to-film, music videos and more. Our upcoming workshops include documentary writing, short film production and script writing.

Visit The Get Ahead Stay Ahead Project on Youtube to see what the students have been up to.

Alternatives for Girls

During the winter of 2016/2017, Alternatives for Girls and The Get Ahead Stay Ahead Project teamed up to talk self-esteem, heritage, role models, how we value ourselves and others, poetry, and film. The girls engaged in discussion about strong female poets and visual imagery and then were invited to either write their own poem or find one that resonated with them. They then story boarded their ideas and we went out to shoot video and stills. This is their end result. #girlpower
